To celebrate the 2012 edition of the Movement Electronic Music Festival in Detroit, D Records and Paxahau Event Productions will release an eighteen track mix from various D Records’ artists on May 22nd. Paxahau and D Records are no strangers to being on the forefront of electronic music as they have seen the birth and evolution of electronic music over the past four decades, as well as curated one of the most influential music festivals on the planet; Movement Electronic Music Festival. The compilation is an introduction to the new sound of Detroit as well as a reminder that D Records and it’s critically acclaimed artists have their sights set on establishing their place atop the electronic music food chain. Joshua Harrison, Ataxia, Keith Kemp, and Secrets are joined by fellow Detroit techno artists Brian Kage, YOS, Noel Jackson, Erika and Kevin Reynolds, as well as Movement talent booker Chuck Flask, and even a new track by Paxahau co-founder Jason “Jaos” Clark.
Founded in 1999, D Records began life as the first sub-label of techno superstar Richie Hawtin’s M-nus imprint. Formed by a close-knit crew of friends who had dedicated their lives to the city’s 90′s underground party scene, D came into being alongside the inaugural electronic music festival (now known as Movement), a gathering of electronic music performers and fans that drew an unprecedented number of attendees in 2000. Since then, the annual festival has served as both a celebration of Detroit techno’s history and a showcase for newly matured talent year after year.
Whether you’re a newcomer to the scene or consider yourself part of the “old guard”, this 18 track compilation should catch your attention. The people behind both D Records and Paxahau have been leading their industry by possessing an unmatched taste in electronic music and have used this intimate knowledge to collect the finest of Detroit’s current crop of unsung producers.
